Installing an R-series Spurcycle Mirror

These mirrors are intended for drop bar bicycles and can be mounted on either or both sides. Equip yourself with a 2mm and 4mm hex key, then follow the simple steps below. Once you've ridden with a mirror, you'll never want to be without.

Remove Set Screw

Use a 2mm hex key to loosen the Socket Set Screw completely. Remove and set it safely aside.

Extract Mirror

Extract the Mirror and Socket Sleeve from the End Cap and Expander assembly. This takes a little effort, because the Socket Sleeve has a small catch feature to hold it in place. Don’t be afraid to pull firmly.

Remove bar plug

Remove the original bar plug from your drop bar—typically the left side for riding on the right side of the road. Note, a plastic tire lever may be helpful if it doesn't remove easily.

Insert Expander

Insert the Spurcycle Expander assembly in place of your original bar plug.

Secure Expander

Orient the Socket Set Screw for easy access, perhaps down if you don't want to see it but up for easiest access. Then secure the Expander by turning the Bolt clockwise using a 4mm hex key.

Align and seat Mirror

Align the slot of the Socket Sleeve with the inner tab of the Expander End Plug, then press the Mirror with Socket Sleeve inward until it seats fully.

Reinstall Set Screw

Reinstall the Socket Set Screw and tighten using a 2mm hex key. Do not over tighten but snug it up firmly. (Using an L-key in long form, it's hard to torque beyond the recommended 0.6Nm.) The Mirror position should be secure but adjust smoothly, solid enough to resist bumps in the road but easy to tune while riding.

Adjust Mirror angle

Final adjustment of the Mirror angle must be done while on the bike in a riding position. Place the reflected horizon roughly at the center line of the Mirror. Adjust to see the edge of your thigh.

Other notes...

  • Effective riding with a mirror takes some getting used to. Expect to spend a half dozen rides gaining proficiency. Of course, don't forget to maintain your attention on the road ahead.

  • Keep your mirror clean of dirt and fingerprints just like you do your sunglasses.

  • Spurcycle Mirrors are designed to dislocate in case of significant impact to protect rider and product. The above process can be used to reinstall after dislocation.

  • The Mirror with Socket Sleeve can be removed and the Expander End Plug left in place for quick on/off. We suggest storing the Set Screw with unused parts so it doesn't get lost.

  • Replacement parts are available as needed.
